Game Two Box Score

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's softball team fell in both games of their final regular season and MIAA doubleheader on Saturday by 8-0 and 11-3 scores against Trine.

In the opener, the visiting Thunder scored three runs in the top of the first, one in the third, and two in each of the fourth and sixth innings.  The offense was more than enough as Trine's pitching and defense kept the Belles' offense at bay.

Saint Mary's notched their lone hit of the six-inning game in the bottom of the sixth inning.  With two outs away and Trine's Andi Gasco an out away from a no-hitter, Maureen Healy extended her hitting streak to 11 games and broke up the no-no with a first-pitch single to right center field.

The Belles, however, would only register that lone hit and fell by an 8-0 score in six innings.

In game two, Saint Mary's showed their resilience by scoring a run right away in the top of the first inning.  Lauren Enayati led off the game with a double to right center field.  After moving to third on a grounder by Maureen Healy, Enayati scored on an RBI single hit up the middle by Ashley Peterson.

The Thunder, however, responded with runs in the first, second, third, and fourth to go up 10-1.

Saint Mary's refused to go down without a battle, just as they have demonstrated all season.  In the top of the fifth, Healy drew a one-out walk for the Belles.  Ashley Peterson and Angela Gillis notched back-to-back singles to load the bases.  Two batters later with two outs, Morgan Bedan dropped a single down the left field line as Healy and Peterson were both able to score on the hit to keep the game alive.

After going down in order in the fifth, Trine would score a run in the bottom of the sixth to win the game by a 11-3 margin.

Ashley Peterson and Kate Mitchell each collected a pair of hits for the Belles.  Peterson was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored while Mitchell was 2-for-3.

The Belles (21-17, 10-6 MIAA) will enter the MIAA Tournament as the fourth-seeded team and will face off against first-seeded Alma on Thursday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m.  Alma, Adrian, Trine, and Saint Mary's all play in the tournament, which is hosted by regular season MIAA champion Alma.
