Offense Erupts as Belles Sweep Day Two Games in Florida
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Hayley Bojorquez, Morgan Bedan, and Lauren Enayati all hit home runs as the Saint Mary's softball team outscored the opposition 24-0 on Monday.
The Belles opened up the day with a 9-0 win over Kenyon College. Saint Mary's took little time to get on the scoreboard as Hayley Bojorquez blasted a two-run home run in the top of the first inning. Bedan then book-ended the Belles' scoring with a two-run homer in the top of the fourth to put Saint Mary's up by the 9-0 margin of victory. Six players, including Bojorquez and Bedan, had multiple hits for the Belles in the win. Kelli Spurlock and Callie Selner were among those six as they each added a double in the win.Angela Gillis and Emily Sherwood each tallied a pair of singles and drove in a run each.
Selner had a great outing in the circle for Saint Mary's as the freshman pitcher threw five shutout innings, allowed just three singles, and stuck out nine of the 15 defensive outs of the contest for her first collegiate pitching victory.
The team's bats remained hot in the second game as Saint Mary's earned a 15-0 win against UMass-Dartmouth. Leading the way was junior outfielder Lauren Enayati, who was 3-for-4 from the plate with a triple and her first career home run. She drove in five runs, scored twice, and stole a base in the win as she was a double away from the cycle. Angela Gillis was one of four players to go 2-for-3 from the plate in game two as she had a single and a double. Kate Mitchell, Spurlock, and Sherwood were also 2-for-3 from the dish as they each scored two runs and combined for six RBIs in the win.
Monica Palicki moved to 2-0 on the season with the five-inning shutout victory. The junior allowed just two hits and struck out three in her seventh shutout win of her career.
The Belles (3-1) will take on Curry and Salem State tomorrow at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. in Fort Myers, Florida.
