Cassie Young and Jamie Young Named All-Americans by NFCA

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - For the first time in program history, the Saint Mary's softball team had two of its members earn All-American honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as Cassie Young and Jamie Young were both Third Team All-American selections for 2018.

Cassie Young was one of three outfielders to earn a spot on the Third Team. A three-time First Team All-Region honoree during her career, she currently ranks 23rd among all NCAA Division III softball players in batting average. Additionally, she is in the top 100 among all players in the nation in hits (30th), on-base percentage (41st), and runs batted in (91st) as of the latest NCAA statistical ranking. The Belles' starting center fielder for the past four seasons, Young is listed in the top 200 nationally in RBI per game (188th), sacrifice hits per game (152nd), and total bases (128th). A co-captain on the team for the past two years, she broke the program's all-time hit record in April and holds the second-highest career batting average (.459) in program history.

Jamie Young was the shortstop pick for the Third Team. A three-time All-Region pick, her school-record 69 hits in 2018 puts her 14th in the country among all NCAA Division III softball players in total hits this spring as of the latest NCAA statistical ranking. She also currently ranks in the top 100 in batting average (94th), runs per game (35th), total bases (39th), toughest to strike out (97th), triples (36th), and triples per game (97th). Her on-base percentage and runs batted in total are in the top 200 nationally. A co-captain this spring, she is the program's all-time leader in single season hits and career hits (231). She is one of six players all time to post a career batting average of .400 or above.

It is the first All-American honor for each student-athlete.

The 45 players chosen for the 2018 NFCA NCAA Division III All-America softball teams were announced Wednesday night during the NCAA Division III Championship banquet at the Sheraton Hotel Downtown in Oklahoma City. Saint Mary's was one of seven teams with two honorees apiece as fellow MIAA member Trine also had two honorees in 2018.

The pair join Ashley Peterson '10 as the only NFCA All-Americans in program history.
