Belles Come up Short Against Calvin and Alma


GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saint Mary's swimming team was defeated by #14 Calvin and Alma in the team's final MIAA meet of the regular season on Friday night.

The Belles fell to the nationally-ranked Knights by a 177.5-58.5 and lost to Alma 125-97.

Katie Griffin had the top performance of the night for the Belles as she claimed first place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.14.

Ellie Watson finished second in the 1000 freestyle in 11:04.93, which was her best time of the season and is good enough for fourth on the Saint Mary's all-time top five list.  She followed up her performance in the 1000 freestyle with a third place finish in the 100 freestyle in 58.22.

Caila Poythress finished third in the 100 backstroke (1:06.69), Sara Niemann finished third in the 500 freestyle (5:38.22), and the Saint Mary's "A" relays finished third in both the 400 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.

The Belles will now prepare for the season-ending MIAA Championships, which will take place at Calvin College on February 11-13.
