MIAA Championships - Day Three
Watson Registers 'B' Cut Time as Belles Finish Seventh
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saint Mary's swimming team concluded their season with a seventh place team finish at the MIAA Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Calvin College.
The Belles wrapped up the three day championships with a team score of 241. Defending MIAA Champion Calvin successfully maintained their crown with a team score of 939.
Freshman Ellie Watson wrapped up a very successful weekend as she finished second in the 1650 freestyle with an NCAA B Cut time of 17:47.70. The time was also the third fastest 1650 free time in program history. She will have to wait to see where her time ranks among all NCAA Division III times for consideration for the NCAA Division III Championsihps.
Watson also helped the 400 freestyle relay squad to the second-best time in school history. Watson, Meredith Lierz, Megan Price, and Katie Griffin finished fifth overall in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:43.83
Gen Spittler also had a big day for the Belles as she made an appearance in the championship finals in the 200 butterfly. The freshman finished sixth with a time of 2:15.43.
Sara Niemann wrapped up her career with a 12th place finish in the 1650 free. Caila Poythress and Emily Pearl both made the consolation final in the 200 backstroke. Poythress finished 12th in 2:16.08 while Pearl finished 15th in a time of 2:19.54. Griffin and Lierz were in the consolation final of the 100 free. Griffin took 13th in 55.54 and Lierz was 15th with a 55.99 time. Senior Maggie McNicholas concluded her career with a 12th place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:45.83.
