Belles Edged Out by Comets
OLIVET, Mich. - The Saint Mary's swimming team battled in a 129-100 loss to Olivet on Saturday afternoon.
The Belles took first place in three events on the day as a trio of freshman were able to take top honors. Katie Griffin took first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:02.49. Gen Spittler was the top finisher in the 200 butterfly with a 2:21.85 in the event. Two races later, Caila Poythress was the fastest swimmer on the day in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:21.33. Poythress forged the way in the 200 backstroke for a strong team showing in the 200 backstroke as the Belles finished 1-2-3 in the event. Emily Pearl and Sara Niemann capped off the Saint Mary's sweep in the event by taking second and third.
Griffin and Poythress also took second place in the 100 freestyle and 200 individual medley with times of 56.04 and 2:30.24, respectively. Ellie Watson, meanwhile, earned a pair of second place finishes in the 1000 and 500 freestyle events with finishes in 11:23.76 and 5:33.59.
The Belles will next host conference foe Albion on Friday, January 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Rolfs Aquatic Center.
