Belles Finish Ninth at Winter Invitational


GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saint Mary's swimming team finished in ninth place at Calvin College's Winter Invitational, which wrapped up on Saturday evening.

Grand Valley State, a Division II member and the top-ranked team in DII, ran away with the team title with 1223 points.  Calvin, who is ranked in the top 25 in Division III swimming, finished second with 549 points.  The meet featured a combination of Division I, II, and III schools.

Audrey Dalrymple led the way for Saint Mary's yet again on Saturday.  She was the lone Belle to earn a berth into a championship final, and the junior claimed sixth place in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:29.91.  She also swam the second leg of the 200 medley relay earlier in the evening.  Dalrymple along with Katie Griffin, Gen Spittler, and Katie Donovan had the top finish for Saint Mary's in that 200 medley relay by taking 13th.

The relay of Katie Roddy, Theresa Bajorek, Liz Litke, and Sarah Thompson were right behind Dalrymple, Griffin, Spittler, and Donovan with a time of 2:00.43 for 14th.

In the 500 freestyle, Megan Price and Ellie Watson finished back-to-back by taking 13th and 14th in 5:24.04 and 5:24.80, respectively.  Katie Griffin, meanwhile, had the team's highest finishes in the 200 backstroke and the 100 free, finishing 14th in the 200 backstroke (2:19.38) and 18th in the 100 free (56.41).

Next up for the Belles will be their winter training trip in Florida over the Christmas break.
