Belles in Ninth at Calvin Winter Invitational


GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saint Mary's swimming team currently sits in ninth place after day two at the Calvin Winter Invitational.

Division II and #1 nationally ranked Grand Valley State leads the field with 662 points after Friday's round.  Host and #18 nationally ranked Calvin is second with 261 points, and #21 ranked Kalamazoo is in third with 210 points.

The top performance in the evening finals for the Belles came from Audrey Dalrymple.  The junior finished fifth in the 400 IM in a time of 4:48.96 as three swimmers all finished within 0.65 of a second of one another to separate third from fifth.  She also finished 10th in the 100 breaststroke just a few events earlier with a 1:08.98, less than half of a second from ninth place in the consolation final.

Ellie Watson, Katie Griffin, and Gen Spittler all earned spots in the consolation finals on Friday night.  Watson took 11th place in the 400 IM with a 4:58.01.  Griffin finished 15th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.69 while Spittler also finished 15th earlier in the evening in the 200 butterfly with a 2:27.41.

The top relay finish for the Belles in the 200 free relay came from the A group of Griffin, Katie Donovan, Megan Price, and Kristyn Gerbeth as the group took 15th in 1:46.03.

The three day invitational will pick back up Saturday morning and conclude tomorrow evening at Calvin College's Venema Aquatic Center.
