SMC at Phoenix Classic - Day One
Belles in Seventh after Day One at Chicago's Phoenix Classic
CHICAGO, Ill. - The Saint Mary's swimming and diving team is currently in seventh place after the first day of the University of Chicago's Phoenix Fall Classic.
The #15 nationally ranked Maroons of the University of Chicago are in first place with 163 points. NCAA Division I University of Illinois Chicago is in second place with 80 points. The Belles have 50 points through day one.
Six total events were completed on Friday - the 200 freestyle relay, 1650 freestyle, and 400 yard medley relay by both the men and the women.
The top finishes for the Belles came from the A group in the 200 free relay and by Ellie Watson in the 1650. The A relay of Katie Griffin, Katie Donovan, Megan Price, and Kristyn Gerbeth finished sixth of 15 groups with a time of 1:46.40. Watson also took sixth place with a 18:42.21 in the mile race.
The three-day event will continue Saturday at the Myers-McLoraine Pool at the University of Chicago.
