SMC at Phoenix Classic - Day Two
Belles Move Up in Standings at Phoenix Classic
CHICAGO, Ill. - The Saint Mary's swimming and diving team moved up to fifth place after 24 events at the University of Chicago's Phoenix Fall Classic.
The Belles have 177 points after day two. Fifteenth ranked Chicago has the meet all but wrapped up with 736 points. Lake Forest College sits in second ahead of DI University of Illinois-Chicago.
The big finish of the day for the Belles came from Katie Griffin in the 200 backstroke. The sophomore finished fourth in the event with a 2:17.47 in the A final, more than a second and a half faster than her time in the preliminaries.
The Belles took fifth place in the 800 free relay in the final swimming event of the evening. Megan Price, Liz Palmer, Sarah Thompson, and Ellie Watson swam a 8:36.49 for Saint Mary's for the finish.
Earlier in the meet, Watson finished sixth in the 500 free in 5:18.50, more than two seconds faster than her preliminary time. Audrey Dalrymple also claimed a sixth place finish with a 1:10.95 in the 100 breaststroke in the A Final.
The 2010 University of Chicago Phoenix Fall Classic will conclude on Sunday.
