Watson, Dalrymple Reset Records, Belles in Fourth

Thursday Results

JENISON, Mich. - Ellie Watson and Audrey Dalrymple both broke their own school records as they helped put the Saint Mary's swim team in a tie for fourth place after the first day of the 2011 MIAA Championships.

Watson, Dalrymple, and Megan Price all earned berths into the championship final of their individual events on the day. Ellie Watson swam a 5:11.09 in the preliminaries of the 500 freestyle to have the #3 seed going into the championship final.
Her initial 200 of her 500 free set a new school record for the 200 free with a 1:58.27 in the morning preliminary round. In the evening session, the sophomore broke her own school record with a 5:06.28, three and a half seconds better than her previous school record and less than a second away from an NCAA B cut time.

Megan Price also had an impressive day in the 500 free for the Belles. In the preliminary round, the junior took nearly 10 seconds off of her fastest time of the season by turning in a 5:14.64 for the fifth-fastest time of the morning session.  She then bettered her time again in the championship final as she took fifth place in a time of 5:14.36.

Audrey Dalrymple was also able to cut time from her morning session in the championship final for the Belles. After turning in a solid 2:12.90 in the preliminaries, she turned on the heat in the final 100 yards of her 200 IM. The junior made the turn from the backstroke as the eighth-place swimmer in the championship heat, but swam her breaststroke in 36.34 and her freestyle in 31.18 to claim third place and a new school record. Her time of 2:12.23 in the 200 IM is nearly half of a second better than her school record set two years ago.

The Belles' relay of Katie Griffin, Audrey Dalrymple, Ellie Watson, and Megan Price finished the 400 medley relay in 4:04.69 for the second-fastest time in program history to finish off the evening's events.

The Belles, who currently have 99 team points and are tied with Olivet for fourth place overall, will resume the MIAA Championship meet on Friday morning beginning at 10:00 a.m.
