Belles Defeated by Hornets in MIAA Opener


NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's swimming and diving team was defeated by Kalamazoo 170-89 in both teams' first MIAA meet of the 2010-11 season.

Several individuals took first and second place finishes on the night against the Hornets, who were the fifth-highest team receiving votes outside of the top 25 in Division III women's swimming. 

Ellie Watson and Megan Price took first and second in the 1000 freestyle in 11:19.44 and 11:36.58, respectively. Two events later, Katie Griffin took first place in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:02.81.  Griffin and Katie Roddy would go one-two in the 200 backstroke as Roddy edged out a Kalamazoo swimmer by two tenths of a second.  Audrey Dalrymple took first place in the 200 individual medley by two-and-a-half seconds over the next closest swimmer with a 2:18.52 to round out the winning performances by the Belles.

Dalrymple also finished second in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:28.67.  In the 500 free, the Belles finished 2-3-4 with efforts by Watson, Price, and Liz Palmer.

Next for the swimming and diving team will be the University of Chicago Invitational on Novemeber 19-21.
