Belles Take Sixth at MIAA Championships
HOLLAND, Mich. - Personal best times continued to fall, an NCAA B cut time was recorded, and a school record was rewritten on the final day of competition for the Saint Mary's swim team at the 2012 MIAA Championships.
The Belles finished in sixth place overall, 23 points ahead of Albion. Calvin successfully defended their conference title to push their streak to eight straight championships with a team score of 803.5.
Audrey Dalrymple continued to lead the way individually for the Belles as she has done throughout her career. The senior had an NCAA B cut time in the preliminary round of the 200 breaststroke this morning with a 2:24.04. In the championship this evening, she improved that provisional cut time to a 2:23.87 while finishing in second place in the event. She will now have to wait to see where her time ranks among all Division III times in the event at the conclusion of conference championship meets.
Anna Nolan had a day for the record books as well on Saturday. In a 50 free time trial between sessions, the freshman posted a 24.74 for a new school record time in the event. In the consolation final of the 100 free, she then picked up yet another all-time top-five performance with a 55.15 for the third-fastest time in program history.
Genevieve Spittler earned points for the teams in both of her events of the day. The junior made the consolation finals of the 200 back and 200 fly and finished 16th and 10th, respectively. Megan Price, Liz Litke, Julianne Divine, and Liz Palmer also earned points in their individual events on the final day of competition.
Megan Price notched the fourth-best 1650 free time in program history with an 18.27.02 and a ninth place finish for the Belles.
In the final women's event of the MIAA Championships, Megan Price, Dalrymple, Katie Donovan, and Nolan all teamed up for a top-five time in the 400 free relay with a 3:42.95.
Liz Palmer (1650), Genevieve Spittler (200 back), and Liz Litke (200 breaststroke) all cut time off of their previous best personal records. Julianne Divine also posted top times of the season in the 100 free and 200 breaststroke on Saturday. Litke and Divine both improved their times from the morning preliminaries in the evening finals sessions.
Final Women's Team Scores: 1. Calvin 803.5. 2. Hope 660. 3. Kalamazoo 590.5. 4. Olivet 398. 5. Alma 316. 6. Saint Mary's 289. 7. Albion 266
