SMC at MIAA Tournament - Day Two
Belles Close Season With Win, Gebert and Hurley Named All-MIAA
HOLLAND, Mich. - The Saint Mary's tennis team wrapped up their 2010 season with a 7-2 victory over Olivet in the fifth-place match at the MIAA Tournament on Saturday.
Jessica Kosinski and Cara Rectanus helped the Belles set the tone early as they picked up an 8-2 win at #3 doubles. Jillian Hurley and Mary Therese Lee followed the pair up with an 8-4 win of their own at #2 doubles.
The Belles then took five of the six singles matches to claim the 7-2 win. Kate Grabarek took a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6 singles. Camille Gebert was nearly flawless in her final match of her collegiate career. The lone senior on the team closed out her career with her 109th overall win and her 29th straight singles win over an MIAA opponent with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #2 singles.
Jillian Hurley took a 6-1, 6-1 decision at #1 singles to clinch the win for Saint Mary's. Mary Therese Lee used scores of 6-3 and 6-0 to take her 11th win of the season. Jessica Kosinski had a gritty come-from-behind win at #4 singles, falling 6-4 but then winning 7-6 (7-0), 1-0 (10-6).
The Belles conclude the season with a 13-9 overall record for the fifth straight 10+ win season.
At the finals of the tournament, the 2010 All-MIAA selections were announced. For the third consecutive season, both Camille Gebert and Jillian Hurley earned all-conference accolades for their performances this spring.
Gebert, who went undefeated at #2 singles in conference play for the second straight year, was named to the All-MIAA First Team for the second time of her career. She was also a first-team honoree in 2008. Hurley had 10 wins combined between doubles and singles matches in conference matches this year and was also an All-MIAA First Team honoree.
