Belles Fall in Season Opener to Tigers


PARK FOREST, Ill. - The Saint Mary's tennis team was handed a tough 7-2 defeat in their season opener against Olivet Nazarene University on Friday.

The host Tigers took wins in each of the three doubles matches. Mary Therese Lee and Franca Peluso battled in an 8-6 loss at #2 doubles while Kate Grabarek and Jessica Kosinski fell by a matching score at #3 doubles.

On the singles side of the afternoon, the Belles picked up a pair of victories. At #3 singles, Mary Catherine Faller opened up with a 6-2 decision in the first set and claimed the second set 3-2 on an injury default for a win in her first collegiate singles match. Senior Kate Grabarek also started the season off with a win via a 6-4, 6-3 decision at #5 singles for the Belles.

The Belles (0-1) will travel to Case Western next Saturday, February 26, for a 4:00 p.m. match.
