2016 Tennis Outlook
The Saint Mary’s tennis team has won over 100 matches in the last ten years. The Belles aim to continue that trend of sustained success in the 2015-16 academic year while striving to earn a spot in the MIAA Tournament in May.
Leading the way is a pack of returning student-athletes who have already accounted for 150 doubles and singles wins collectively. Seniors Margaret Faller ’16 and Andrea Fetters ’16 have each posted over 20 doubles and singles wins alone thus far, and both look to add to that total while helping the team achieve their goals. Faller is coming off her best season to-date after making big contributions to the team in both doubles and singles play. Fetters was named Second Team All-MIAA last spring after stepping into the number one singles role a year ago.
Sam Setterblad ’17, Kaity Venters ’17, and Maddie Minaudo ’18 all have their sights set on contributing to the team’s success in the spring of 2016. All three helped the Belles return to the MIAA Tournament last spring, and all three will be looked toward again in 2016. With a handful of newcomers also on the roster, the Belles' depth will undoubtedly be key to a successful season this spring.
The team starts their spring season on Sunday, February 21 when they travel to Aquinas. After hosting both St. Francis and Wittenberg the following weekend, the Belles will travel to the Orlando, Florida area for their annual spring break competitions. The team opens conference play on April 1 at home against Olivet.
