2017 Tennis Outlook
Fresh of compiling the most wins in a season since 2004 while earning their third consecutive MIAA Tournament appearance, the Saint Mary’s tennis team is ready to set the bar even higher in the 2016-17 campaign.
Seniors Kaity Venters ’17 and Sam Setterblad ’17 along with junior Maddie Minaudo ’18 are poised to lead the squad to continued levels of success in the year ahead. Venters and Setterblad each had their best season to-date last year for the Belles. Venters had a combined total of 18 wins in singles and doubles play while Setterblad posted 20 combined wins on the season as the team won better than 68 percent of the doubles matches and posted a 62.3 win percentage at singles flights in 2015-16. Minaudo garnered the program’s first MIAA Player of the Week honor and accounted for a team-high 28 victories in singles and doubles play a year ago.
Monica Davy ’19 and Elizabeth Preister ’19 look to help round out the line up as several Belles will contribute to the team’s success this year. Davy was a Second Team All-MIAA performer during her first season and collected 33 combined victories. Preister was a steady force and posted a 10-1 record in singles play during her first year with the Belles. Kelsey Kopf '18 and Bailey Oppman '18 return after study abroad stints and will add to the team's depth. Abbi Fleming '19, Meaghan Flynn '20, and Elizabeth Bush '20 round out the roster for the Belles as Saint Mary's aims to take another top four finish in the MIAA in 2017.
The Belles open their spring season with a three-match trip to Ohio over the weekend of February 18-19. The team begins conference play on April 6 when they host Trine.
