Belles Take Two to Open Capital Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Saint Mary's College volleyball team took wins from Muskingum and Penn State - Altoona on Friday afternoon to start off the Capital University Opener Tournament.

The Belles went the distance in the first match by taking a five-set decision from Muskingum by scores of 19-25, 25-16, 25-11, 23-25, 15-8.  The team's first win of the season is also head coach Toni Kuschel's first win of her collegiate coaching career.  Lorna Slupczynski led the team with 18 kills while adding 17 digs and six service aces.  Meghann Rose led the Belles with a 27 dig effort and Danie Brink added 23 assists and six service aces of her own.

In the second set of the afternoon, the Belles took a 3-1 victory over Penn State - Altoona by 25-23, 25-17, 20-25, 25-21 scores.

The Belles will face off against DePauw at 11:30 a.m. to try to earn the right to place for the tournament championship later on Saturday.
