SMC at Capital University Tournament
Belles Take 3rd at Capital Tournament, Slupczynski All-Tournament
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Saint Mary's College volleyball team fell in their morning match against DePauw 3-0 before taking a win in the 3rd/4th place match in straight sets from Hanover.
In the 25-17, 25-18, 25-17 loss to eventual tournament champion DePauw, Danie Brink had 21 assists and a pair of kills to help pace the Belles' offense. Meghann Rose had 14 digs while Andrea Sasgen had a team-high seven kills for Saint Mary's.
The Belles bounced right back in the consolation match for third place against Hanover by taking a strong 25-18, 25-22, 25-21 win. Lorna Slupczynski had 12 kills and added six digs and a service ace in the victory. Danie Brink had a strong all-around match for the Belles with 20 assists, six digs, five kills, and two service aces. Meghann Rose had 10 digs, Andrea Sasgen had nine kills and Ellen Huelsmann added three aces in the Belles' third win of the year.
At the conclusion on the tournament, Lorna Slupczynski earned All-Tournament Team honors for her efforts on the weekend.
The Belles return to Angela Athletic Facility next week to host in-state rival and fellow MIAA member Trine University in both teams' conference opener. The Belles and the Thunder will square off on Tuesday, September 8 at 7:00 p.m.
