Belles Drop MIAA Match to Britons
ALBION, Mich. - The Saint Mary's College volleyball team fell 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 18-25, 25-21) to Albion College on Saturday.
Attacking errors plagued the Belles in the first two sets. In the opener, Albion was able to get an early lead and was up by eight points at 16-8. The Belles were able to battle back late to 24-23 before Albion took the set by a 25-23 score. In the second set, it would be the Belles who would establish an early lead. The Brits, however, used a 9-1 run to close out the set and go up two sets to none.
In the third set, the Belles were able to turn things around. After breaking a 9-9 tie, Saint Mary's went up for good to take the set 25-18.
In the fourth set, the two teams would be tied 14 times, but some late attacking errors turned out to be the difference as Albion won 25-21.
Meghann Rose had a match-high 26 digs for Saint Mary's. Stephanie Bodien led the Belles with 17 kills. Lorna Slupczynski, meanwhile, had 10 kills and 15 digs. Danie Brink added 34 assists and 11 digs.
The Belles will return to Saint Mary's to take on Kalamazoo on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
