Belles Swept by Brits
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team fell in straight sets (25-22, 25-18, 25-18) to visiting Albion on Wednesday evening.
In the first set, the visiting Britons used a five-point run turn a 8-7 deficit into a 12-8 lead as they would not trail again in the set. The score was tied 10 times in the second set before Albion went up for good at the 16-15 mark and took advantage of some miscues to claim the set. In the third set, the Belles were able to battle back from a three-point deficit early on, but Albion used a four-point run to turn a one-point lead into a five-point lead as they went on to take the set and the match.
Stephanie Bodien led the Belles' offense with 10 kills while hitting .368 while Lorna Slupczynski added nine kills of her own. Ellen Huelsmann, meanwhile, had an impressive .455 attack percentage with five kills and no errors in just 11 attempts. Danie Brink helped pace the offense with 32 assists while Meghann Rose keyed the defense with 14 digs.
The Belles (9-13, 5-9 MIAA) will next travel to Kalamazoo College on Friday night before heading to Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Saturday to wrap up the regular season against Calvin and Hanover.
