Belles Win Pair at Manchester Invitational
NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team won both of their opening matches at the Manchester Invitational on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Franklin and a thrilling 3-2 (25-19, 22-25, 24-26, 25-23, 16-14) victory against the Millikin White squad.
In the Belles' 3-1 (26-24, 25-10, 22-25, 25-19) win against Franklin, Saint Mary's had a well-balanced attack against the Grizzlies. Autumn Nelson had a team-high 15 kills with five digs and a pair of service aces. Stephanie Bodien added eight kills, five digs, and four aces in the victory. Hailee Leitz paced the offense with 32 assists and a team-high eight aces. Allison Zandarski and Christi Wyble, meanwhile, were nearly unbeatable blocking at the net as Zandarski had a hand in seven blocks while Wyble was part of four blocks of her own.
In the nightcap against Millikin, Nelson and Bodien were the go-to offensive threats again. Nelson put up 15 kills and 18 digs while Bodien had a team-high 16 kills and 14 digs for Saint Mary's. Christi Wyble also had a double-digit kill effort with 11 kills in the match. Ellen Huelsmann also had nine kills and nine digs for the Belles. Hailee Leitz had 51 assists with six digs and a pair of kills.
The Belles will wrap up the Manchester Invitational tomorrow afternoon against Purdue North Central and the Millikin Blue team at noon and 2:00 p.m., respectively.
