Belles Downed by #13 Flying Dutch
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team suffered a tough setback on Wednesday when they fell to #13 nationally-ranked Hope in straight sets (25-10, 25-16, 25-15).
The Flying Dutch came out on a strong note by building a quick five-point lead at 8-3 in the first set. Hope used a .615 hitting percentage in the opening set to win 25-10. The visiting Flying Dutch would finish the match with a .449 hitting percentage en route to the win.
The Belles were able to establish their offense throughout the match. Down 13-6 in the second set, Saint Mary's scored three quick points to get within 13-9, but Hope would pull away in the second set. Saint Mary's was able to hang tough with the Flying Dutch early on in the third set, but once again, Hope was able to go on a few scoring spurts to take the match in three sets.
Lindsey Stuss led the Saint Mary's offense and shared match-high honors with eight kills on the night. Stephanie Bodien was right behind her with seven kills of her own and a team-best eight digs.
The Belles will travel to Albion this upcoming Saturday for a triangular event with the Britons and Beloit College beginning at 11:00 a.m.
