SMC vs. Trine
Belles Tripped Up by Thunder
ANGOLA, Ind. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team fell 3-0 (27-25, 25-17, 25-16) to Trine on Wednesday evening.
In a set that featured 10 ties and four lead changes, the host Thunder went up by as much as six points in the first set with that lead coming at the 21-15 mark. Saint Mary's however, refused to go down without a battle. Ellen Huelsmann served five straight points to turn a 22-17 game into a 22-22 deadlock. Trine responded with two quick points to gain the set-point advantage, but the Belles were able to notch three consecutive points to go up 25-24. Trine, however, would score the next three points to take the first set.
The Thunder used the momentum gained from taking that first set to go on to win in straight sets.
Stephanie Bodien led the Saint Mary's attack with an eight kill effort. Meghann Rose added a match-high 12 digs while Hailee Leitz added 21 assists.
The Belles return home to host #14 nationally-ranked Hope on Tuesday with the match being set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
