SMC at Elmhurst Invitational Day Two
Belles Defeat Western New England, Fall to Elmhurst
ELMHURST, Ill. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team picked up their first win of the 2010 season with a 3-0 win over Western New England before falling in a 3-0 match to the host Bluejays at the Elmhurst College Volleyball Invitational.
In a 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-16) victory over Western New England, Danie Brink had a big match for the Belles. The junior setter had a team-best 10 kills with a .692 hitting percentage and 26 assists in the first win of the season. Ellen Huelsmann and Lindsey Stuss each added six kills of their own. Meghann Rose paced the defense with 12 digs as she and fellow senior Huelsmann both had three service aces.
Against the host Bluejays, the Belles hung tough against a strong Elmhurst squad but fell short 28-26, 25-16, 25-18. Stephanie Bodien led the offense with 14 kills and Stuss had nine more kills for Saint Mary's. Brink added 29 more assists in the second match of the day while Rose had a team-best 18 digs in the loss.
The Belles (1-4) have six days until their next match when they open up conference play Friday, September 10 in their first home match of the season against Albion at 7:00 p.m.
