LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team was one of more than a record-breaking 822 high school, junior college, college, and university volleyball programs to earn the Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for the 2016-17 academic year.
The AVCA Team Academic Award is celebrating its 25th year this summer. Initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, the award recognizes collegiate and high school volleyball teams which have displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
The Belles had a 3.48 cumulative GPA and were one of 150 NCAA Division III women's volleyball programs to pick up the distinction for the 2016-17 academic year. It is the seventh consecutive year the team has garnered the honor from the AVCA for their performance in the classroom.
Saint Mary's was one of eight MIAA member schools to be named to the AVCA Team Academic Award list this year. For the full list of honorees, visit the AVCA website here.
