Volleyball Outlook

  • Coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history, the Belles aim to continue that success in 2017.
  • Five returners and eight newcomers make up the team this fall.
  • The Belles were picked fourth in the MIAA Coaches Preseason Poll.

The 2016 season was one of the most successful in program history for the Belles volleyball team, and the team aims to build off that success moving ahead to 2017 and beyond. The squad posted their third consecutive season with at least 15 wins and tied the program records for MIAA wins (11) and highest conference finish (third).

Senior co-captains Leah Buck and Rachel Bonek were two big contributors to the team’s success last fall as the pair will be relied upon for their experience moving forward. Buck led the team for the second consecutive season as a junior and added a career-best season in total kills. Bonek had a breakout year and was second on the team in kills while earning an all-tournament team nod at the Emory Classic.

Grace Barrett, Nicole Borah, and Nicole Ehardt also return to the team in 2017 and will be looked upon for their leadership and experience to help guide a large group of newcomers. Among that new group are Audrey Shannon, who competed last year at Marshall University, and Nicole Lukens, who was part of Clarion University’s volleyball program a year ago. Also in the group of new Belles are several all-conference and all-area performers who are anxious to contribute to the team in 2017.

The team opens the year on Friday, September 1 at the Otterbein Fall Classic as the Belles take on both host Otterbein and Capital University. The team then jumps into MIAA play on Wednesday, September 6 when they travel to Alma for a 7:00 p.m. match.
