To check your Mac OS X system specifications for Office 2008/2011 for Mac compatibility:
- Go to the Apple menu (in the upper left corner) and select About this Mac.
- The software version must meet or exceed Mac OS X Version 10.4.9 for Office 2008
compatibility. If you are running an earlier version of Mac OS 10.4 you will need to
run Software Update first to be compatible.
- The software version must meet or exceed Mac OS X Version 10.5.8 for Office 2011
compatibility. If you are running an earlier version of Mac OS 10.5 you will need to
run Software Update first to be compatible.
- The Processor must be 500MHz or faster (and G4, G5, or Intel) for Office 2008
compatibility.
- The Processor must be Intel for Office 2011 compatibility.
- The Memory must be 1GB or more (RAM).
- Click the More Info... button.
- In the left column, select Disc Burning. Next to Reads DVD it should say Yes.
- To check the hard drive capacity and free space available, click once on the
Macintosh HD icon on your desktop. Go to the File menu and select Get Info.
The Available space should exceed 1.5GB for Office 2008 compatibility.
The Available space should exceed 2.5GB for Office 2011 compatibility.
To check your Windows 7 system specifications for Office 2007/2010
for Windows and Windows 7 Ultimate Edition compatibility:
- Go to the Start menu, right-click on Computer, and select Properties.
- In the window that appears, will find the version of Windows 7 you are running.
Only Windows 7 Professional Edition and Windows 7 Ultimate Edition are supported
at Saint Mary's College.
- You will also see the processor type, speed, and installed Memory (RAM) on your computer.
You need at least a 1GHz processor for Windows 7 Ultimate Edition. You need at least 1GB
of memory (RAM), with 2GB or more preferred.
- To see how much space is available on your hard drive, go to the Start menu and
select Computer. The Local Disk (C:) drive is likely your primary drive, and it will list
how much space is available and the total capacity of the hard drive.
You need at least 2GB of free space available for Office 2007,
at least 3.5GB of free space available for Office 2010,
and 20GB of free space available to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate Edition.
- To see if you have the ability to read DVDs, go to the Start menu and
select Computer.
The icon for the optical (CD/DVD) drive will list what kind of drive it is. If it says DVD,
it will be able to read CDs and DVDs.

To check your Windows Vista system specifications for Office 2007/2010
for Windows and Windows Vista Ultimate Edition compatibility:
- Right-click on the My Computer icon and choose Properties.
- In the window that appears, will find the version of Windows Vista you are running.
Only Windows Vista Business Edition and Windows Vista Ultimate Edition are supported
at Saint Mary's College.
You may choose to upgrade to either Windows Vista Ultimate Edition OR
Windows 7 Ultimate Edition if your version of Windows Vista is not supported -
please refer to your computer's documentation or manufacturer's website to confirm
compatibility with Windows Vista Ultimate Edition or Windows 7 Ultimate Edition prior to
purchase and installation.
- You will also see the processor type, speed, and amount of RAM on your computer.
You need at least a 500MHz processor and at least 1GB of memory (RAM) for
Office 2007.

To check your Windows XP system specifications for Office 2007
compatibility:
If your computer is currently running Windows XP Home or Professional Edition,
ResNet strongly recommends upgrading to or staying with Windows XP Professional Edition
and not upgrading to Windows Vista Ultimate Edition or Windows 7 Ultimate Edition.
- Right-click on the My Computer icon and choose Properties.
- On the General tab, you will find the version of Windows XP you are running.
Only Windows XP Professional Edition is supported at Saint MaryÕs College.
- On the General tab, you will also see the processor type, speed, and amount of RAM
on your computer. You need at least a 500MHz processor for Office 2007. You need
at least 1GB of memory (RAM).
- To see how much space is available on your hard drive, double-click on the
My Computer icon, right-click your C: drive, and choose Properties. On the General tab,
you will see the amount of free space available and the total capacity of the hard drive.
You need at least 2GB of free space available for Office 2007, and
at least 3.5GB of free space available for Office 2010.
