Three Belles Earn All MIAA Honors

NOTRE DAME, IN – For the second consecutive season Alison Kessler was named to MIAA’s first-team while teammates Bridget Lipke and Erin Newsom were picked for the league’s second-team.

Saint Mary’s posted a 10-6 mark during league play; the best single season record in school history since officially joining the league during the 1998-99 season. The squad also qualified for the MIAA semifinals for the first time.

Kessler led the league in scoring through out the season. The junior averaged 19.9 points a game in becoming the first Saint Mary’s player to league the MIAA in scoring. In addition, she finished first in steals (2.48 spg), sixth in assists (3.08 apg) and 14 th in rebounding (5.2 rpg). During the season she scored her 1,000 career point (she now has 1084) and became the schools single season scoring leader in posting 497 points this year.

Garnering second-team honors for the second straight year Lipke led the league in assists (4.88 apg) for the second consecutive season. The senior averaged 12.0 points a game which was the ninth best mark in the MIAA and the second best total on the Belles squad. She will graduate as the school leader for career assists (400) and assists in a game (12) and season (132).

Newsom earned the second-team accolade after posting 11.2 points and 8.5 rebounds a game which ranked 12 th and ninth respectively in the MIAA. The sophomore posted six double-doubles which was the second most in the league during the season. Newsom nailed 51.1 percent (118-of-231) of her field goal attempts which was tied for the third in the MIAA.
