Belles in Third at First Round of MIAA Finale

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - The Saint Mary's golf team turned in their best round of the fall 2011 season while taking third place at the first day of a 36-hole finale of the MIAA season.

The Belles shot a 337 and were just three strokes behind second place Hope and 12 strokes back of first place Olivet. The Belles' Natalie Matuszak and Olivet's Theresa Damico both shot rounds of 77 for the low scores on the day.

Matuszak followed up yesterday's 33 on the front nine with a 36 on the front nine on Friday during her round of 77. Christine Brown and Janice Heffernan both shot rounds of 85 to share 10th place with another player. Cara Kielty secured the Belles' third place finish with a 90 to tie for 23rd place. Jessica Kinnick also competed for the Belles and shot a 97 (t-37th).

The Belles will continue to look to gain ground on Olivet and Hope in the final day of MIAA play at Bedford Valley beginning at 9:00 a.m.
