Buck Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Honor

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's senior volleyball player Leah Buck (Mattoon, Ill./Mattoon) was one of only 11 NCAA Division III volleyball players from the Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois (District 7) region to earn College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® recognition.

A student-athlete's performances both in the classroom and in the competitive arena are taken into account for consideration for the honor. A chemistry and chemical engineering double major and mathematics and physics double minor, Buck boasts better than a 3.95 cumulative grade point average at Saint Mary's. A six-time Dean's List and three-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll honoree, she has served as a teaching assistant in the chemistry department, has been part of the Big Sisters and Belles for Life groups at Saint Mary's, and has conducted research at the University of Notre Dame. The senior middle hitter was recognized as an all-tournament team performer at the Otterbein/Capital Tournament this season and is second all-time for career blocks in the rally scoring era of the volleyball program.

She will next be considered for CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team honors. First-, Second- and Third-Team All-America® honorees will be selected later in May. Buck and Calvin College's Jenna Lodewyk were the lone MIAA representatives on the 2017 Academic All-District® list.

Buck is the first member of the Saint Mary's volleyball team to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District® accolades.

To be eligible for Academic All-District® and Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 (on 4.00 scale), have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

CoSIDA began the distinguished Academic All-America program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America scholar-athlete honors.
