New Partnership Between Saint Mary’s and Beacon Health System
Saint Mary’s College and Beacon Health System have enjoyed a long-standing collaboration in nursing clinical education. This week, a new partnership between the two institutions begins, but instead of SMC nursing students traveling to a hospital or clinic for hands-on training, this time Beacon’s care team comes to Saint Mary’s campus.

A Passion for Others: Helping a New Generation of Student Nurses
In 2003, when Shary Moran Price ’77 and her husband Matt Price had an opportunity to start a new business close to their home in Dayton, Ohio, they launched a travel nurse staffing company they named Advantage RN. Recently, this decision led to the expansion of the Shary Moran Price ’77 Endowed Nursing Scholarship to provide even more resources for talented nursing students at Saint Mary's.

Women of Legacy: The AABOD Drives the Saint Mary’s Mission
The College welcomes new AABOD officers for 2024–2026, President Jessica Brinker Foster ’08, Vice President Leticia McDonald Hart ’00, and Secretary Mary “Caren” Craine Murawski ’80. “It is an honor to be elected by the board as its president, and I look forward to working with the College, board members, and all alumnae, focusing on the common threads that bond us and providing opportunities for the success of all past, present, and future Belles,” Foster said.

The Revolutionary Love Bus Arrives at Saint Mary’s
In 2021, civil rights leader and bestselling author Valarie Kaur spoke to SMC students at a virtual event, inspiring all with stories from her book, See No Stranger. In turn, Kaur was so impressed by our students that when it came time to plan her in-person Revolutionary Love Bus tour this fall, she included Saint Mary’s on her schedule. On October 8, Kaur performed on stage in Moreau Center for the Arts’ Little Theatre.

The Center for The Study of Spirituality kicked off its 40th anniversary celebration with a conference studying the local and lasting legacy of Sister M. Madeleva Wolff, the third and, many assert, most famous president of Saint Mary’s College. The three-day conference, Mother, Mascot, Martyr? Exploring the Local and Lasting Legacy of Sister Madeleva Wolff, CSC, took place October 3-5.

Caring Beyond the Cure
The summer before my first semester of nursing clinicals, I had visions of pouring my heart into each patient I encountered. I was eager to make a positive impact on every individual, empowering them to regain their health and make a full recovery. But on the first day of my chronic med-surg course, we were plunged into the deep end of reality with our lecture on hospice and palliative care. I laughed to myself: What a way to kick off the semester, starting with “the end.”

Chasing Dreams in Southern California: A Belles Soccer Story
The Saint Mary's Soccer program has long awaited being a sport that can travel for a game. Soccer was among the few that rarely traveled outside the region as other athletic teams do in their seasons. Over Labor Day weekend, Head Coach Farkhod Kurbonov made it possible for the Belles to travel to the West Coast to play the first game of the 2024 season.
