Saint Mary's student starts American Girl Club Saint Mary's College student Eilis Wasserman '12 is a huge fan of historical American Girl dolls. She is also a communication studies (speech) major with minors in English writing and American history. This spring she’s using all of these passions to put on a program at two St. Joseph County Public Library branches. It’s called the American Girl Club, and it will meet once a month at the Francis and Centre branches. Professor interviewed on talking to kids about 9/11 Student entrepreneurs introduce their soda 1/27/11 (WNDU-TV)—A team of five students enrolled in the New Venture business class started a new soda company last semester and they debuted their bubbly, green "Twist O’Luck” soda pop to students recently. You can buy it in the Cyber Café on campus and may soon be able to buy at at the University of Notre Dame. The entrepreneurs hope Fighting Irish fans will be drawn to the shamrock green colored soda. The team created the formula, designed the labels, and chose to have the beverage be made in glass bottles with gold twist off caps. The next step is to take it to off-campus buyers. Team member Hannah Hupp '12 was interviewed. Professor interviewed about President Obama's speech Fulbright recipient heading to Malaysia 'Toys' Exhibit Artist's Reception The handcrafted wooden toy collection of South Bend toymaker George Efta will be on display from December 6 through January 31. The exhibit is simply called “Toys”. Efta is recognized as one of the nation’s foremost craftsmen of wooden toys and puzzles. His collection includes his own works as well as handmade toys by other artists. It is his first public exhibit. An artist’s reception in planned for Monday, December 12 from 4:30-6 p.m. in the library. The public is invited to attend. Saint Mary's Helps Students Adjust to College 1/27/11 (Fox 28)—A new study says American college freshmen are stressed out, and an increasing number say they felt overwhelmed by work as high school seniors. Ironically, the same day this story hit national news, Saint Mary's was hosting an evening workshop titled "Getting off to a good start this semester." It was led by Diane Fox, director of student success, who was interviewed for the story. The reporter also interviewed Gia Bottiglione ’14. 6th Annual Dance Marathon for Riley Coming up Hundreds of Saint Mary’s College students and others are expected to lace up their dancing shoes for the sixth annual Saint Mary’s College Dance Marathon this Saturday. The 12-hour event will kick off at 12 p.m. (noon) this Saturday in the Angela Athletic Facility and conclude at midnight. Dance Marathon Vice President Meaghan Curliss '11 was interviewed on WNDU-TV's morning show about it. Dance Marathon President Katie Fadden was interviewed on WSBT-TV's morning show. Saint Mary's Science Programs Featured on TV WNIT's Economic Outlook program focuses on how educating women in science-related fields could help the country become more competitive on the world stage. The panel features two Saint Mary's College science faculty, a dual degree (chemistry/engineering) alumna, and a biology major.
