Belles Have Tough Trip to Ohio

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Saint Mary's tennis team opened the spring 2013 season against some tough competition in the form of No. 7 regionally-ranked Case Western and Ohio Northern on Saturday. Case Western won 9-0 over the Belles while Ohio Northern took a 7-2 decision.

The regionally-ranked Spartans were a tall order for the Belles in their season-opening match as Case Western took all nine flights. Shannon Elliott and Margaret Faller held their own against regionally-ranked Sara Zargham and Kathleen Evers before being edged out 8-4 at number two doubles in what was the closest flight of the match.

Against Ohio Northern, Shannon Elliott and Margaret Faller battled their way to a 9-7 win at number two doubles for the Belles. Later in the match against the Polar Bears, Mary Catherine Faller battled her way back to a win in the tiebreaker with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) victory at number one singles.

The Belles will regroup and will be back in action on their Spring Break trip to the greater Orlando, Florida area March 10-15.
