Belles Split Results

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Saint Mary's tennis team defeated Wisconsin Lutheran 8-1 in the morning before falling 9-0 to Wheaton.

In the morning match against Wisconsin Lutheran, the Belles edged their way to three wins at doubles play for an early 3-0 lead. Mary Catherine Faller and Kayle Sexton emerged with a 9-7 win at number one doubles, Shannon Elliott and Margaret Faller were 8-4 winners at the number two flight, and Audrey Kiefer and Jackie Kjolhede took an 8-3 win at three doubles for the Belles.

The Belles went on to win five of the six singles flights for the win. Kiefer dropped just a single game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Margaret Faller and Jackie Kjolhede, meanwhile, lost only two games apiece for straight-set wins.

In the evening match against Wheaton, the Belles were unable to break through as the Thunder took the 9-0 decision.

Shannon Elliott and Jackie Kjolhede battled tough in their singles matches against the Thunder. Elliott took the first set 6-4 before falling 6-1 in the second set and 10-7 in the tiebreaker at number three singles. Kjolhede had a nailbiter at the six singles flight, winning 6-3 before dropping the second set 6-4. The tiebreaker was played to the wire before Kjolhede fell 11-9.

The Belles return to play in Florida on Friday against Haverford.
