Belles Split Results in Illinois

• Elizabeth Preister earned the Belles' sole win against Augustana with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at six singles.

MOLINE, Ill. - The Saint Mary's tennis team bounced back from an 8-1 loss against Augustana with a decisive 9-0 victory against Knox on Sunday at the Quad City Tennis Club.

In the opening match, the host Vikings took all three doubles matches. Maddie Minaudo and Elizabeth Preister were narrowly edged out after their match went to a tiebreaker in a 9-8 (7-1) three doubles final. Monica Davy and Sam Setterblad fell 8-2 at one doubles, and Kaity Venters and Meaghan Flynn suffered an 8-0 loss at two doubles.

Preister earned the Belles' sole win of the match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at six singles. Setterblad nearly made a big comeback at three singles but was stopped short 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4). Davy, likewise, nearly forced a third-set tiebreaker in a 6-1, 7-5 setback at one singles. Kelsey Kopf was halted in a 6-1, 6-3 two singles loss. Maddie Minaudo (6-1, 6-2) and Meaghan Flynn (6-1, 6-1) were also dealt defeats at five and four singles, respectively.

The second match of the day could not have been much different for the Belles. Saint Mary's stormed out to three big doubles wins against the Prairie Fire and never looked back. Flynn and Venters had an 8-0 win at two doubles, and Minaudo and Preister matched that feat with an 8-0 win of their own at three doubles. Davy and Setterblad, meanwhile, rattled off an 8-2 win at one doubles to give the Belles the 3-0 lead going into singles.

Abbi Fleming (three singles) and Meaghan Flynn (four singles), meanwhile, had matching 6-1, 6-1 wins to round out the 9-0 sweep for Saint Mary's.

The Belles (5-9) close out their non-conference slate of competition on Tuesday when they face cross-town rival Bethel at the Knollwood Country Club. The match begins at 2:30 p.m.
