Belles Shut Down by Thunder

• Maddie Minaudo and Monica Davy each pulled within 5-4 in a set in singles play.
• Elizabeth Preister and Kelsey Kopf each took at least one game in both sets in singles play.

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's tennis team lost a 9-0 match against regionally-ranked Wheaton on Friday night at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.

Katiy Venters and Meaghan Flynn were stopped 8-1 at two doubles. Maddie Minaudo and Liz Preister fell 8-4 at three doubles while Sam Setterblad and Monica Davy also suffered an 8-4 setback at one doubles.

Minaudo battled back with back-to-back game wins in the second set in a 6-1, 6-4 loss at five singles. Davy nearly came back in the opening set - pulling within 5-4 - but ended on the short side of a 6-4, 6-1 final at one singles. Preister nearly drew even in her second set but fell 6-2, 6-3 at six singles. Kelsey Kopf was part of several long points at two singles but could not catch the fortunate breaks in a 6-2, 6-1 final. Flynn similarly found herself on the short end of many long volleys in a 6-0, 6-2 four singles match. Setterblad battled at three singles but shouldered a 6-2, 6-0 setback on the night.

The Belles (4-8) travel to Augustana on Sunday to face both host Augustana and Knox.
