Frances Bernard Kominkiewicz, Ph.D., M.S.W., M.S.A., B.S.W., is a professor at Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana and inaugural director of the Master of Social Work program. For 25 years prior, Dr. Kominkiewicz served as the director of the Bachelor Social Work (BSW) program at Saint Mary's, where she oversaw the first national CSWE accreditation for the Social Work Program and two perfect CSWE reaffirmations. She is also former chair of the Department of Social Work and Gerontology.  Dr. Kominkiewicz is licensed by the State of Indiana as a clinical social worker, a marriage and family therapist, and a clinical addiction counselor. She is a commissioner on the CSWE Commission on Educational Policy and served as a member of the CSWE Council on the Role and Status of Women in Social Work Education. Among her peer-reviewed presentations are, “Relationship between Ethno-Religious Conflict and Economic Growth: Analysis of the Scholarly Literature” which was designated as the Distinguished Lecture and Discussion at the sixth International Conference on Ethnic and Religious Conflict Resolution (ICERM) held in New York City (2019). Dr. Kominkiewicz  also presented her sibling abuse research at the 27th San Diego International Summit on Violence, Abuse and Trauma Across the Lifespan: Amplifying Voices for Recovery, Resilience, Reconciliation and Reformation in San Diego, CA (2022). Her dissertation researched sibling abuse policy, which she has presented in Germany and in China. One of her book chapters regarding child maltreatment interviewing is used in counselor trainings in Germany. Dr. Kominkiewicz received a National Center for Excellence in Homeless Services grant and co-wrote two book chapters regarding youth experiencing homelessness and an overview of homelessness issues. She served as co-chair of the national BPD Research Committee, assisted in developing a national curriculum for the CSWE Homelessness Practice Curricular Guide, and is a consulting editor for the Journal of Baccalaureate Social Work.

Professional Experience 

Dr. Kominkiewicz holds three licenses through the State of Indiana as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor (LCAC).  She served as the school social worker for five schools in School City of Mishawaka, Mishawaka, Indiana, and as a social worker and counselor at Catholic Charities/Catholic Social Service in the Diocese of Fort-Wayne-South Bend. Dr. Kominkiewicz taught in the DSW Program, Morrison Family College of Health, at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and was one of the two founding faculty of the MSW Program at Indiana University South Bend.

National Homelessness Social Work Initiative Grant – Coordinator/faculty contact of project; Social Work Program named as a partner with the National Center for Excellence in Homeless Services at the
University of Albany School of Social Welfare (2015; extended 2016, 2017, and 2018). Grant received to increase inclusion of individuals experiencing homelessness in the social work curriculum and strengthen services for those experiencing homelessness through partnerships with the community, research regarding homelessness, and policy advocacy.
