Sister Kathleen Bueter, CSC

 (December 9, 1924 - September 1, 2011)

Please, join in prayer of thanksgiving for this Sister of the Holy Cross who died on September 1, 2011 in Saint Mary's Convent.

Word has been received of the death of Sister Kathleen Bueter who died at 12:12 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2011, in Saint Mary’s Convent.

Most of Sister Kathleen’s first 40 years in community life were dedicated to the ministry of education in the elementary schools of the Midwest, where she often served as both teacher and administrator.

She is remembered as a person of strong convictions with a high degree of integrity.  She did not hesitate to speak up if she felt there was some injustice being done or some problem that needed to be corrected.  It is said “she stood tall and held her ground.”

Her last 20-plus years at Saint Mary’s are an example of dedicated internal ministry to all.  At an administrative level she served the sisters in Rosary Convent, Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent and the former Queen of Peace Convent.  She showed her great compassion and love by her vigilance in seeing that the needs of the sisters be met even after she herself became a patient.  From her wheelchair she continually was alert to the care of the sisters around her, whether being sure that a sip of water was given to relieve a dry throat cough or an awareness that no sister was missed for Communion; Sister Kathleen always looked out for others with thoughtfulness and empathy.

Her loyalty to family and community was a hallmark of her character, and others looked up to her as a model of faithfulness and goodness.  We say of such a person, “Her reward will be great in heaven.”  And so Sister Kathleen has gone to claim her well-earned reward.

Funeral arrangements for Sister Kathleen are as follows:  Reception of the body and wake on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at 4 p.m. with the Mass of Resurrection on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at 10:30 a.m.  All of these ceremonies will take place in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto.  May Sister Kathleen rest in peace.
