Outstanding Graduating CAT Scholar Award

Katie Klinker '13 has successfully completed all 600 hours of service and will be “graduating” from the CAT Scholar Program.  She is a Senior Elementary Education major who has a special heart for children for whom English is a new language.  Katie has worked tirelessly in the CAT Program since 2010 as a teacher’s assistant and after school tutor at Coquillard Traditional School. In the summer of 2011, Katie helped facilitate our Summer School Program at McKinley Primary Center acting as a teacher. In addition to her work with children, Katie has also helped with Rebuilding Together, service events at Dismas House, 12 Days of Christmas, Bells for Belles, and the Pen Pal Program.

A fellow student says of Katie, "I love her enthusiasm and energy when involved with the program. Those two qualities combined with her perseverance to succeed and help others, so they too may succeed, are extremely contagious. Her energy radiates off her and provides the children with the additional support they need when facing challenges at home or school.”  Another student adds, “Katie’s energetic spirit and genuine concern for others is evident in the classrooms she works with as well as in our own social circle of CAT Scholars,”  Thank you for all your service to our community.
