September 22, 2014 (Notre Dame, Ind.) — The Saint Mary's College Department of Social Work and the Office of Special Events will sponsor a workshop for those in or studying to be in the social work sector. The event, “The Ethics of Self-Care: Social Workers, Heal by Self,” will start with lunch at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 29 in Rice Commons of the Student Center at the College. Click for a campus map. The cost of lunch and the workshop is $24. The cost of the workshop alone is $15. The workshop itself begins at 11:45 a.m. Continuing Education Units (CEU) are available.

The session will explore the ethical responsibility of social workers to care for themselves while providing care for others. Participants will discover how self-care is integral to maintaining an ethical social work practice and how taking care of self is interwoven throughout the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics. Participants will examine their own need for physical, emotional, and spiritual self-care and develop a personal self-care plan.
