Saint Mary's Makes a Promise (South Bend Tribune)
In this opinion piece, Saint Mary's College President Carol Ann Mooney addresses a subject in the news a lot lately: the high cost of higher education and its perceived value. "Statistics show that it takes the average student more than five years to attain a bachelor’s degree...Finishing college in eight semesters is a key way to make higher education more affordable...We are so confident that our students will graduate in four years that we recently announced our 'Four-Year Graduation Promise.'"

Audra McDonald Juggles Singing and Acting (In The Bend)
Saint Mary’s College presents “An Evening With Audra McDonald” on Monday as part of the Margaret Hill Endowed Visiting Artist Series. Go to moreaucenter.com for ticket info. During the day the Tony- and Grammy-Award-winning actress/singer will teach a master class for Saint Mary’s students. That night she will sit down with Saint Mary’s theatre professor Katie Sullivan for a public question-and-answer session.

Bishop D'Arcy's Legacy of Faith (South Bend Tribune)
The Most Reverend John M. D’Arcy, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Fort-Wayne South Bend, died on Sunday morning. He was 80. D'Arcy led the diocese from 1985 to Jan. 2010, when he retired. Current Bishop Kevin Rhoades spoke fondly of D'Arcy shortly after conferring the Sacrament of Confirmation on two students Sunday night at Saint Mary's College.

Discovering Her Feminist Voice (AAUW Newsletter)
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) interviewed Catherine "Cat" Cleary '12, about discovering her feminist voice as a college student. She is former member of the AAUW National Student Advisory Council (SAC), an exclusive group of college women who advise AAUW on student issues. Cleary served while she majored in women’s studies at Saint Mary’s. She is now enrolled in the philanthropic studies program at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and hopes to continue her women’s advocacy work at a nonprofit. In this story she mentions a meaningful project she completed with Laura Corrigan '13, another SAC member.

Dance Arts 2013: DanceSpeaks is Feb. 14-16
The Saint Mary’s College Dance Ensemble Workshop will take the stage of Little Theatre (not O'Laughlin) on Thursday, February 14 through Saturday, February 16 to perform Dance Arts 2013: DanceSpeaks. Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, in addition to a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday. Dance Arts is an annual presentation of the Program in Dance, which is part of the Department of Communication Studies, Dance, and Theatre.

Grade School Students Get Taste of College (Fox 28)
About 120 Elkhart Community Schools (ECS) students got get a taste of what it’s like to go to college when they visited the Saint Mary’s campus Thursday. The kids are attending a six-week summer session at Cleveland Elementary School in Elkhart where Saint Mary’s education students and alumnae are their teachers. The summer enrichment, called the Laboratory School Network, is a partnership between the college and Elkhart schools announced two weeks ago.
