Wikipedia Stages New Kind of Protest, Notes Professor (Fox 28)
Joy Piazza, visiting assistant professor of communication studies, is interviewed about Wikipedia's virtual protest. On Wednesday, the website blacked out the English language version of its website for 24 hours to protest anti-piracy legislation under consideration in Congress. It's an unprecedented move that Piazza likens to the Occupy Movement.

Political Science Professor on N.H. Primary (WSBT-AM)
The New Hampshire primary is today and GOP candidate Mitt Romney is expected to win the nation’s first presidential primary of 2012. Today is anticipated to be a race for second place. Political science professor Sean Savage is interviewed on his projections for this primary and beyond. Among Savage's predictions, if Jon Huntsman doesn’t come in second or a close third, he will leave the race.

STEM Students and Faculty Put on Hypatia Day for Middle School Girls
Hypatia Day is this Saturday, Feb. 25. The day was started by a Saint Mary’s math professor in 1991 to get young female middle school students interested in math and science and show them how it can be fun. The various STEM departments at the women's college will host more than 90 female 7th grade students from over 30 Michiana middle schools, who were nominated by their math and science teachers to attend.

A correspondent with the Agence France-Presse (AFP), a French News Agency, interviewed communication studies professor Michael Kramer on the impact of what was communicated at the Republican National Convention and what must be communicated at the Democratic National Convention. Democratic leaders must counter the cutting Republican charge that though President Obama's election was historic, his presidency hasn't been successful. This story was picked up by news websites around the world.

2012 Romero Days Commemorate Justice Education's 30th Anniversary
Saint Mary’s College and the University of Notre Dame will commemorate the life of Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero with the 2012 Romero Days, March 27-28 (Tuesday and Wednesday). Events will be held on both campuses and include a film screening, a workshop, and a lecture given by South African Bishop Kevin Dowling. Romero Days will honor the 30th anniversary of Saint Mary’s Justice Education Program.

Bishop Features Valedictory Address in Weekly Column (Today's Catholic...
The Most Reverend Kevin C. Rhoades, Bishop of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, featured the valedictory address by co-valedictorian Anne Bulger '12 is this week's issue of Today's Catholic. The Bishop called her address, read by her at Commencement, "excellent." He said, "It is very encouraging to hear reflections from our youth whose faith is an inspiration."

Making a Pitch for Women in Baseball (South Bend Tribune)
Justine Siegal, founder of Baseball for All, a non-profit organization that advocates that both sexes be allowed to play ball, spoke at the College last night. Her talk is associated with a two month-long exhibit in the Cushwa-Leighton Library called “Women in Baseball.”
