I specialize in 20th and 21st century US-American literature, theater and performance studies, and queer and feminist theory. As a teacher and researcher, I am passionate about the places where ideas become mobile: between the street and the stage, between the past and the present, and between the classroom and the outside world. In my research, this translates to investigating the moments that theater and performance art have influenced social movement organizing in the United States (and vice versa) since the turn of the 20th century. In my teaching, it means encouraging students to engage literary texts as works of art, historical artifacts, and sites of political possibility on and beyond the page.
