Faculty Profiles

Sandra Ginter
Sandra (Sandi) Ginter has her A.A. from Cottey College, her B.F.A. from Kansas City Art Institute and her M.F.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She is currently teaching at Saint Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana. Her ceramic work incorporates aspects of science and philosophy. These two fields of study help fuel artistic ways of exploring the relationship between the microbiological levels of our connectedness to other things. In biology, clustering is an exploratory technique for gene-expression data, grouping like objects with one another, allowing scientists to identify important relationships. In philosophy, the question of what it means to be human has been debated since the time of Plato. Utilizing these concepts as a platform for investigation, Ginter’s work explores aspects of our actuality, considering time, daily tasks, the mark they make and what they might leave behind.
