Belles Downed by Spartans

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Saint Mary's basketball team suffered a 66-54 loss against the host Spartans in the Manchester College Bankers Classic on Friday night.

In the first half, neither team was able to establish more than a five-point lead as the teams were tied seven times in the opening 20 minutes of play. After the break, Manchester pushed their lead to 10 less than five minutes into the second period. The Belles edged within five points of the lead at 40-35, but responded with seven straight points to balloon the lead to 12. Saint Mary's would not get within fewer than nine points of the Spartans' lead as Manchester emerged with the 66-54 decision.

Patsy Mahoney led all players with 15 points on the night. Jessica Centa added 14 while Maggie Ronan chipped in 11 of her own for the Belles.

Saint Mary's will face off against #16 (USA Today/ESPN) /#12 (d3hoops.com) Denison in the consolation of the tournament as the Big Red were defeated by Baldwin-Wallace 54-53 in the first game of the night. Saint Mary's and Denison will begin play at 1:00 p.m.
