Belles Take Seventh at MIAA Jamboree

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Saint Mary's cross country team finished in seventh place at the MIAA Jamboree on Saturday.

The race was hosted by Trine University at their Zollner Golf Course. The ninth-ranked and six-time defending conference champions from Calvin won the event with a team score of 27. Thirteenth-ranked Hope finished second with 44 points while regionally-ranked Albion rounded out the top three with a score of 95.

The Belles turned in a team score of 160 on the day, just three points behind Kalamazoo for sixth. The MIAA Jamboree makes up one-third of the team scores that will ultimately decide the conference champion for 2011. The MIAA Championship race will take place on October 29 at Alma and will make up the other two-thirds of the teams' scores.

Joanne Almond led the way for the Belles, finishing 20th overall in a time of 24:43. Julia Kenney, meanwhile, finished 32nd overall while earning 24 points for her team with a time of 25:10 on the 6k course. Emma Baker ran a 26:14 on the day to earn 31 points while finishing 50th.

Colette Curtis and Samee Chittenden finished within a few seconds of each other for Saint Mary's. Curtis ran a 27:00 (40 pts., 62nd) while Chittenden finished in 27:07 (45 pts., 68th). Angela Nebesny and Elizabeth Majewski were not far behind. Nebesny crossed the finish line in 27:22 (70th), and Majewski ran a 27:49 (77th).

Sarah Copi (28:22, 83rd), Danielle Haydell (29:33, 101st), Mandy Wolf (29:37, 103rd), and Liz Krupp (29:50, 104th) all competed for the Belles on Saturday as well.

The Belles will next be in action on Saturday, October 1, when they head to Chicago for the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational, which is hosted by Loyola University.
