Belles Earn Solid Finish at Sean Earl Invite

CHICAGO, Ill. - With teams such as Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin among  those in the field, the Saint Mary's cross country team earned 26th out  of 45 competing groups at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on  Saturday.
 
 The event, which was hosted by Loyola (Chicago) University, was won by  #27 nationally ranked Iowa with a team score of 27. The Belles finished  with a team score of 860 along the shores of Lake Michigan.
 
 Julia Kenney was the top finisher for the Belles. The junior ran a 19:38  to finish 134th (105) in a field of nearly 540 harriers. Joanne Almond  was the next Belle to finish the 5k as she turned in a 20:09 for 141  points and 193rd. 
 
 Colette Curtis had her highest team finish to date with the Belles as  she not only was a scoring runner, but was the team's third finisher on  the day. The sophomore had a 21:07, more than 40 seconds better than her  time at the race last fall, to finish 294th and earn 195 points. Sarah  Copi was not far behind as she bettered her previous 5k PR by running a  21:15 (304 overall, 200 points). Samee Chittenden wrapped up the team  score with a 21:43 for 219 points (345th).
 
 Elizabeth Majewski was the sixth Saint Mary's runner to finish on  Saturday as she completed the race in 22:04 (365th). Liz Krupp took 27  seconds off of her 5k time from just a few weeks ago at the Calvin  Invite by finishing in 22:28 in her hometown (385th). Danielle Haydell  also competed for the Belles on Saturday and finished in 22:45 (400th).
 
 The Belles will host their annual Alumnae 5k next Saturday before  heading to Ohio for a Pre-Regional meet at Oberlin on Saturday, October  15.
