Belles Earn All-Academic Team Honor

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Saint Mary's cross country team was one of 187 Division III women's cross country teams to earn All-Academic Team Honors as announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on February 15.

Saint Mary's was one of five schools in the MIAA to earn the distinction. Moreover, the Belles' 3.60 cumulative grade point average was the top of all conference schools honored for the fall 2011 season.

"I'm very proud of my team," said Coach Jackie Bauters. "As a team, high academic achievement is not just a goal, it is an expectation. As a Division III athlete, you are an athlete because of your love of the sport. These ladies are not only going to enjoy their time here, but when they graduate they are going to be successful--because they have set those standards for themselves. Receiving the USTFCCCA All-Academic honor is something that I hope will continue for years to come. Go Belles!"

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 through the 2011 fall semester.
