Belles Take 17th at Loaded Knight Invitational

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saint Mary's cross country team claimed 17th at a highly competitive Calvin Knight Invitational on Saturday.

The host Knights won their event with a score of 34 while Division II Grand Valley State took second with a team score of 64. The Belles finished with a score of 465.

In a field of over 300 runners, Jessica Biek was the top finisher for the Belles as the junior posted a time of 19:15.7 for 50th place overall in the 5k race, earning Saint Mary's 42 points. Samee Chittenden was the next Saint Mary's runner to cross the finish line as the sophomore turned in a collegiate personal record of 20:33.1 for 142nd (103).

Senior Elizabeth Majewski was just behind Chittenden as she also ran a collegiate personal record 20:34.3 for 145th place overall, earning the Belles 105 points. Senior Emma Baker kept the string of Belles going with a 20:40.8 and 152nd (107). Senior Sarah Copi was neck-and-neck with Baker to wrap up the team score as the senior finished in a collegiate 5k best time of 20:41.8 for 153rd (108).

Just a few seconds later, senior Julia Kenney crossed the finish line with a 20:44.7. Freshman Allie Danhof and senior Angela Nebesny finished back-to-back for the Belles with times of 20:52.2 and 20:53.2, respectively. Colette Curtis finished the 5k in 21:01.4.

Sarah Lipinski finished in a time of 21:24.8, and Dani Haydell ran a 22:05.0 (229). Katelyn Dunn turned in a 22:44.7. Miranda Bronicki ran a 23:27.7, and Clarisa Medina finished right behind her with a 23:27.9. Holly Higdon wrapped up the Belles' performances by crossing the finish line in 23:30.8.

The Belles return to action when they participate in the University of Notre Dame's annual National Catholic race on Friday, September 14.
