Belles Take Fourth at Wabash Hokum Karem

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - The Saint Mary's cross country team opened up their 2013 season with a fourth place finish at the 51st Wabash Hokum Karem race on Saturday.

Teams competed with pairs of runners in the relay-style race that saw each duo run four combined miles. Number 18 ranked NAIA-member Huntington won the event with a team score of 17. Regionally-ranked DePauw and NAIA Marian were second and third, respectively with scores of 19 and 21. The Belles were the fourth place team with 24 points.

The duo of Jessica Biek and Brittany Beeler led Saint Mary's with a fifth-place finish in a time of 23:51.45. Samee Chittenden and Allie Danhof were close behind as they finished seventh in 24:10.75. Sarah Thompson and Kaitlyn Alessi wrapped up the team score by finishing 15th in 25:52.85.

Colette Curtis and Erin Knauf were 16th overall with a time of 25:54.60. Katelyn Dunn and Emily Getz were just a few seconds behind as they ran a 26:01.55 to finish 17th.

Kathryn Marshall and Maggie Pacana finished 21st with a time of 26:34.10. Colleen Ogren and Holly Higdon rounded out the Belles' performances with a 27:18.40 to take 25th.

Saint Mary's will host the annual Alumnae Race next weekend before traveling to Grand Rapids for the Calvin Knight Invitational on September 14.
